Organization 101: the beginning

So does your house look like this? Mine isnt quite that bad, but I still feel like I am swimming upstream most days. Part of the issue is that I have 4 kids, partly because I work crazy and unpredictable hours and partly cause I just dont like to clean. Sadly I am not an organizer by nature and for all of you like me, you know how hard that can make getting organized and staying that way.

I mean seriously, I would love to have a clean house all the time...wouldnt you? So Organization 101 is born. These post will be dedicated to helping you get organized and stay that way.

Lets start in the bathroom. With 3 people in my house standing up to pee, it makes for a necessary daily chore. But since I have 3 bathrooms, I dont want to spend my day scrubbing toilets either. So what to do?

Typically I perfer homeade cleaning products (more on this later) but for the bathroom I stock up on a container of the household wipes. I take about 2 min each bathroom and wipe down the counter sink and finally the toilet (and nearby floor :-)
Run the toilet brush around the inside of the toilet and voila...and isntantly clean bathroom.

By doing this each day, not only do I keep the yuck off the toilet and floor, but it saves me tons of time scrubbing the bathroom each week. (6 minutes each day vs. a half hour per bathroom!)

This is going to be an interactive set of posts (aka...leave comments please)
What do you do to make your bathroom cleaning easier?

i do the same with my bathrooms (lysol wipes). one day i discovered a tool to make cleaning tubs (and shower walls/tile) a breeze...magic eraser pads! sometimes i spray a little vinegar/water onto the tub (sometimes i skip this step), then i wipe the inside of the whole tub and shower walls with the magic pad and all the soap scum and dirt comes off so easily. these are cheap when on sale and i reuse them several times before they disinegrate.

I follow an organization website called Flylady.com. She has us do the same thing each morning as part of our morning routine. She calls it "Swish and Swipe" Goes to show what a couple of minutes daily can do to save us tons of time in the long run. She has even more ideas for keeping the whole house running smoothly. I am born organized but still love following what to do each day. :)
