Why you need to organize your office

I have an office

It was a mess

I rather liked it that way to be honest

I knew where everything was (kind of)

But NOBODY else dose

I mean seriously in a house full of 6 people it's a blessing when they can't find your crap

It is supposed to be MY office The only thing in the whole house that is mine (And the dogs that is)

However I found out that I had a home office invader

And this invader stole my checkbooks

You know the way expensive ones I use to spend my money with to pay my bills

Just cuz they accidentally fell into the craft pile
(From the bill pile right next to it)

That evidently gave him the green light to write all over them....

Filling them in with numbers no less.

Big numbers.

Needless to say I had to clean my office so I can pay my mortgage.

I fear he has a career as a check forger in his future....

Missed opportunities

Sometimes, there are things I really hate about working nights.  Mostly I love it.  I mean seriously, who wouldn't want to work graveyard as a psych nurse?

However there are times like this morning which I really would have loved to have been there to see...

Let's set the stage..

Hubs is responsible for getting the kids somewhat functional before he leaves for work in the morning.  My teens get the littles on the bus.  It works for us.

This morning however he decided (for God knows what reason) that it was ok for Sam ( my kindergartener) to make his own lunch.  (Evil laughter enter here....)

So Sam poured himself a bowl of cereal sucessfully and Hubs left to do whatever it is that he does in the mornings....

When he returned he found Sam now consuming 3 toasted waffles.

The convo went like this:

Hubs:  "Umm dude, were you really hungry this morning or what?"

Sam:   "No, not really..."

Hubs:  "Umm Sam, you just ate a bowl of cereal and now you are eating 3 waffles?"

Sam:  "I didn't eat cereal"

Hubs:  "Sam, dont lie, I saw you eat cereal!  I don't care that you ate all of it, but don't lie about it ok?"

Sam:  "But Daddd  I DIDN'T eat cereal!!"

Hubs:  ( frusturated now) "Then where did that cereal go you poured?"

Sam:  "Dad, you are so silly...that's not my breakfast...its my lunch!!!!!"

I swear this is why the teachers hate us....

Cleaning anyone?

Well after Yesterday's post I decided that I knew for certain what would be the very next pin I tried....

(after calling the plumber that is)

I mean seriously....Look at that brown GUNK all  around the faucet!  Dis-gus-ting!

My only homemaking retribution is that one my daughters is in charge of cleaning that bathroom.....evidently I have much to teach her still.  Otherwise I would have had to photoshop the heck outta clean that faucet before the picture.

This of course would have lead to scrubbing and probably getting bleach splattered all over my clothes and eyes and such...Ewww!

But Pinterest gave me an easier solution yet again.
Enter the CLEANING POWER OF VINEGAR.....

Now this pin tutorial is for someone who has hard water...I don't think I have hard water as I live in the city limits after all but perhaps it works for lazy cleaners too?    Hmmmmm

The tutorial states to soak paper towels in vinegar and wrap it around the faucet and leave it there for 20 minutes or so...then scrub the gunk with a toothbrush.  It also states that she needed to repeat the process

Ummm....I decided to leave it on for about 2 hours cuz I so didnt want to scrub or waste any time repeating the whole thing of course.  Plus my faucet was seriously Naaasssttty!

So I wrapped the facuet up all pretty like....See, an improvement already!

And then I proceeded to do something relaxing for the next two hours since I was doing all this cleaning you see.

Problem.... I broke a very important rule in the process of all this.

You see, I work night shift....  and in working nights there is a rule  you must not ever break.   You. Do. Not. Relax.... At least not for long periods of time after being awake for 18 hours.

I forgot this rule (as usual) and promptly fell sound asleep drooling on my desk ummm snuggled up in my bed.

Needless to say after 5 ish hours I jumped up certain that my pin-tip  had now eaten holes in my faucet.

Only to discover......

Beautifulness....The pin actually worked!  Yay!!!!

How sweet is that?  Soak paper towels, wrap up whatever, and go take a well deserved nap, and poof its clean!  Like some freaking fairy godmother..or the maid I keep asking for?

I think I can get into this kind of cleaning.

Imagine the possiblities, the time saving....

I think I need to buy stock in paper towels....seriously.

What not to try in the kids bathroom

So....

I have 2 teenage daughters right?

Do you have ANY idea of the massive amount of make up and brushes those girls need have?

Seriously?  My already messy bathroom looks like some bomb exploded when the girls are done getting ready in the morning.

Like No counter space anywhere....

Which makes it a problem for necessities like...I don't know,  brushing ones teeth?????

Sigh

So I opted to try out a couple of handy quick and easy pintrest pins to get an organize going on...or at least make my dental bills less.

I decided to first go with this Pin cuz it looked relatively harmless.

http://vainglorious-in-philly.blogspot.com/2011/07/coffee-bean-make-up-brush-holder.html

Honestly I didnt read the tutorial.

I mean, it looks pretty self explanatory...and GENIUS!

So I zipped over to my dollar store to get my $1 square vase....check!

And then had to make a seperate trip to get the coffee beans cuz I wouldnt know  how to grind them if you asked me...I use this instead.....

(I am spoiled like that:)

So for a grand total of  $5.95 ish,  I had all the supplies to get my project going :)

YAY!

So I took my coffee beans and dumped them in the vase thingy and it took about half the bag.  It was seriously no problem :)

Looks good right??

(I know I am seriously short on the make up brushes but I figured the girls could put their own brushes in since I did so much work and all.)

And since I had a half a bag of useless coffee beans I took the tutorial and put my own little twist on it even....

Cute right?  and resourceful....Go me!  I made this one for DH side of the bed and another for mine :)

HOWEVER......

This is what it looked like when I got home the next day.....with the coffee beans all mashed into the carpet.....At least he made the effort to set it back upright.....

So I went in the kids bathroom to see how their makeup brush holder worked after a rushed morning of getting ready.

This is what my 3 of children decided to use the makeup brush holder for......The fourth just didnt even bother as usual.
(which I guess isnt a bad idea? But it just seems wrong somehow...Agreed???)

But if you look really closely at the picture...You will see an issue beyond toothbrushes in the wrong container..... Can you guess it?

Yup.... about 1/4 the coffee beans are missing...I wonder where they went?

I also wonder why Pinterest doesn't have any pins on how to unclog your drain full of coffee beans.....

Or does this kind of stuff only happens to me?

Do to its under appreciation (and the non existent plumbing budget) I think my makeup brush organizer is gonna have to relocate to my Pinterest vanity I have yet to construct :)

A new beginning

Hey!!! long time no see right???

well... Life is crazy...but, I am a bit crazy so its all good right?

I so totally did not realize I have not updated this blog for OVER 2 YEARS!

Bad Bad Amy....

So while I didnt fall off the face of the earth, there happened to be a lot of craziness going on. But what can you expect with 4 kids, 3 dogs and 2 cats really? But seriously, I went back to work (speaking of crazy...I am a psych nurse) I went back to school (to become an even a better paid pysch nurse) and became utterly addicted to.....

Which would be a wonderful thing, but the problem is:   I. Am. Not. Crafty.
-Not even a little bit.
  • I cant sew
  • I cant knit
  • I cant do crossstitch
  • I cant scrapbook
  • I cant fold paper flowers or whatever
The only somewhat crafty thing I can do is crochet...and considering I have a blanket  (somewhere) that I have tried to work on for about as long as I have not blogged, well you get the idea.

The even bigger problem is that what I am in love with on Pinterest are all these home improvement diy thingys. Now I dont own any power tools...sans a drill nor do I know how to use any.

Do you see the problem here??

Handy I am not... and neither is dh!

My other favorite pins are the organization ones. Now did you actually read that first paragraph? You know, the one with 4 kids, 3 dogs, 2 cats... Does this give you any clue at all on how my organization techniques work? Sigh

The fact is that my house is usually trashed. Just keeping it real....

If I find out someone is coming over other than my family I become Momzilla until I get it all stuffed away! If you are wise you will never open any of my cupboards if you visit my house!

But the thing is my house still needs updated, decorated and organzied and we are on a BUDGET.... therefore I get to do all the joy myself:)

But in all honesty I love the idea of a lot of things on pinterest.  From recipes to homeade cleaners; and from organization to major renovation.  There are ways to improve your life without breaking your bank. An pinterest has A LOT of ideas!!!!

So my nice little coupon blog is gonna take a little turn for the worse...ummm better. If i find a super great deal I will let you know, but I am no longer doing coupon matchups and such. (Confession time:  I haven't couponed since I stopped posting in this blog!! I just restarted again last week!)

More likely I am gonna start writing about how to save money with DIY....(and most likely how not to do it:) But it will be real..and chaotic I can assure you. with a bit of luck you can see what does work for the totally uncrafty AND unhandy at least!

I sure hope something does!
Stay tuned and enjoy

Free Photo Book

Picaboo

I love love love Picaboo! I participated in their last photo book offer that I posted about and made a simply AMAZING book for Taylor for her 16th year. The software was easy to use, the color and background choices were seemingly endless, and the final product was simply beautiful. Now of course it helps that I had a great subject :-) but really, I have done several of these books from various companies, and the quality of the product was better than all of them!

Typically the free books are offered 2x a year from them, but there is a new code that just came out: 1FBLGB-7W that will give you a second chance at a free book! You have to pay $8 for shipping, but trust me....it is totally worth it. My book came very quick too (via fedex) and I couldnt be happier with it. When I get my camera working again, I will post a picture of it....or if any of you got in on the deal, send me a picture at clippingforcash@hotmail.com and I will get a shot of your photo book posted.

I am reposting about this fairly frequently since I dont want you to miss out and I have no end date for it. So take the time and put together one for someone you love...I guarantee you will LOVE IT!!

Budgeting first steps

I am a thrifty kind of gal. I dont typically buy stuff without a coupon or discount, I try to watch my extra spending and save my pennies...but there are times that I let the temptation to spend get the best of me. Budgeting and sticking to it can be hard. The end goal is finacial freedom, but sometimes it is difficult to keep myself focused on that when there are so many trappings that come with our society. I like this program for just a quick daily reminder that comes to my email. Little tips and tricks and encouragement to help keep me focused. and the best thing? Its FREE!
daily worth

I have really found this useful in helping maintain my commitment to my budget
