It really wasnt intentional, however my laptop decided to die and a few other unfortunate occurances have occured that has made blogging very difficult for me. But I am back...but may be so in a limited sense for right now!! I just wanted y'all to know I didnt forget you all, I honestly just needed a break and to realign some priorities :)

Thanks so much for being patient!

Family Time

So for some reason, the first day of Autumn ended up being 90 degrees! *whew*

Now dont get me wrong, I love the hot weather, but it makes it pretty rough on my sports lovin son. Zach is running cross country AND playing football this year and sadly for him, he had back to back practices yesterday.

So we decided to stop for some one on one time afterward and I learned the best thing:

I can take any of my kids out for $0.50!! Woo Hoo

So heres the deal. Wendys is offering up their $1 treat sheets that give you like 6 junior frostys for free. But a junior frosty isnt gonna go far with my 10 year old son. Evidently that is just not enough ice cream :-)

So I went through the drive through and ordered 1 treat sheet = $1.00 and 2 small frosties (um...mama likes frosties too!)

They let me use the treat sheet I ordered to pay for my frosties!!

1 ticket= junior size
2 tickets= small size and so forth....

SO for a buck I got 2 small frosties and have 2 more tickets for next time!

I got to enjoy precious time with Zach, a great ice cream and not break the bank all a the same time!!

Do you have any money saving tips for family time??

Waaahooo!

Ya know how I am always telling you to sign up for company mailing lists? Well several months ago ( I dont remember when exactly) I signed up to get on David's Bridal's mailing list. Well they are partners with Shutterfly and today they sent me a coupon code for a FREE 8x11 photo book. Just for recieving their emails!

Now it is an idividual code, otherwise ya'll know I would share it with you, but you might want to think about joining their mailing list to see if you get one too.

In the meantime, you can always go here! and get a free one from Picaboo. Use code 1FBLGB-7W

I do a photo book for each of the kids birthdays (or somewhere around that time) so I am excited about the freebies :-)

Whats the best thing you have gotten from a mailing list?

Sweet 16

So my oldest baby turned 16 last week! She is growing up so darn fast! She is not a huge fan of being the center of attention, and refused a sweet 16 party. So in a matter of compromise :-) I am taking her and a few of her friends to Chi-town to do some shopping, eating and sight seeing! Not exactly the most frugal of trips, but it is what she really wanted :-)

So wish me luck, and be patient with me....coupon matchups will be delayed..I will be out of town until Sunday evening so I will plan to get matchups done on Monday.

Hope you all have a great holiday weekend!

Miss Me?

Sorry for the unexplained abscence....

I volunteered a few months ago to work 3 double shifts this week...not a problem and some needed cash with all the back to school expenses will come in handy BUT...

Hubby had to unexpectedly go out of town this week which left me a single mom

PLUS Band camp is in full swing AND football practice started up.

Combine all these things with regular chores, a new puppy and 4 kiddos and I have a recipe for disaster.

Needless to say, blogging has fell to the wayside, along with my laundry :-(

I will be back in action tomorrow with a whole lot of great deals and freebies for you all!

thanks for your patience!!

Coupons are Everywhere!

Just as a reminder to everyone, always keep your eyes peeled for coupons...even in odd places!

I was heading off to pull a 3rd shift at work the other day and realized at the last minute we were out of *gasp* pop! I knew I wasnt going to make it 8 hours without any, so I popped into the gas station to buy a couple of bottles of overpriced Diet Dew.

And what ever did I see hanging up, but a packet of these $0.35/1 coupons for single 20 oz bottles of Sierra Mist. Now I grabbed a few to take with me, since if I bring this to Meijer...where they DOUBLE, I am getting some cheap pop!

I can honestly say I have never seen coupons in a gas station before, but know ya know...keep your eyes open :-)

Question for the Mommies...

For all of you Moms out there, I was wondering if you have been sucessful in getting your children involved in couponing? Typically, the only involvment that my kiddos have is

a. They are in trouble and punishment is pulling the expired coupons
b. They are broke and offer to earn money by cutting and filing my q's for me :-)

Otherwise they stay as far as humanly possible from the whole coupon thing. Sam is the only one who will shop with me, and that is only because he is only 3 and therefore has no choice.

So I was wondering what works for all of you out there? Ideas anyone?

Just thinking....

and sometimes it is a scary thing :-)

I was toying with the idea of adding a new feature to the blog. I get a lot of questions via email about couponing and am thinking that they would be benefical for me to share ...kind of a question of the day/week whatever kind of thing.

What do you think? Is that something you would like to see, or is there something else you would like? Leave me a comment and let me know...oh, and a question too!!!

Balance

Since it seems to be a slow deal day, I thought I would share about some of my struggles lately. I seem to be in desperate need of balance.

Now I since I have been couponing/dealseeking and blogging I have pretty much been a SAHM. I love it and it is great for me and my family. However, many of you dont know that I am actually a nurse as well. More specifically, I am a psych nurse. I love helping to care for the mentally ill and making a difference, but I love being home even more and dont plan to change that permanently.

However, I have been offered the opportunity to go back to my old job part time for the summer (my older kiddos are more than able to bsit Sam) and I accepted. It is crazy, fun, frusturating, and rewarding all mixed up together.

What I do struggle with is the balance between work, family, social obligations and of course couponing. I seem to have difficulty getting my groove on with my new work hours. I am not working much (20 hours or so) but it seems to throw off my entire week!

So what I am looking for is suggestions, comments, tips or just plain old advice to make my balance just a bit better...for all of us :-)

Are you looking for an attractive way to organize your coupons? The Coupon Clutch may be exactly what you are looking for! I know that I have gone on and on about the benefits of a coupon binder, and this has it all. Better yet, it is designed to look like a tote, so very much less inconspicuous than a huge binder. I love all the fabrics that they offer as well.

I am totally too frugal to buy a new binder until mine breaks, but if you are in the market for a new way to organize your coupons, check out The Coupon Clutch...and let us know what you get, so I can have coupon binder envy!

Who da thunk?

You can snag coupons for $7.00 off at Cedar Point from Coupons.com Just click on entertainment and it should pop up ( I didnt use a zipcode)

This makes the tickets only $38 bucks for an incredible themepark! We are headed there later this summer (it is in Sandusky OH) for the kids first time ever. They did SO well at WDW that we thought it might be fun to try some of the big coasters.

I honestly would have never thought to look there for coupons, so I thought I would share for all you fellow thrill seekers :-)

Cheap fun for kids

Although it is summertime, it is still a struggle to find things to do during thos rainy yucky days. In being the frugal mommy that I am, I tend to search for free or low cost solutions and activities to this problem.

My kids absolutely love art projects. Give them any type of craft supply and they will have a ball literally for hours. As they age, the more complicated the design becomes.

I have done some searching online and have found some great recipes to make my own craft supplies simply and easily and most importantly...cheaply!

Homeade Watercolors:
Mix:
3 Tbs cornstarch
1.5 tsp corn syrup
3 Tbs baking soda
3 Tbs white vinegar
This will pop and fizz as you combine them :-)

Then you can add food coloring to make whatever colors you would like. Store in small airtight containers. (baby food jars work well)

Homeade Playdough:

Mix:
1 cup cold water
1 cup salt
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
Tempera paint or food coloring (enough to make the color bright)
Then add
3 cups flour
2 tablespoons cornstarch

It should be the consistency of bread dough. make sure that you store it in a covered container.

I am sure that there are plenty more recipes for craft supplies that you all have perfected. Please share them in the comments so we all can enjoy!

Motivation...

Its a rainy Wed and I have none :-)

However I was just reading a blog post about getting kids to help around the house. What is it that helps your household run like clockwork? I have to admit I am a pretty tough taskmaster with 4-5 set jobs for each child a day. Some jobs are daily and some are weekly but of course they still complain and get bored with the same routines. Suggestions anyone???

Catching up from vacay is always a hard thing for any Mama to do, but a couponing mama has it worse. I had 3 weeks of inserts to clip and file. Hmmmmm...
I really wish I would have taken a picture of the stack of inserts considering I get anywhere from 8-12 papers a week! Personally for me clipping is the worst so I did what all smart moms would do.....

I auctioned off the work! Hehehe...I have 2 teens who are more than capable of sorting and clipping the coupons. I offered up $$$$ and Taylor jumped on it. She had spent her money on vacay and has no current bsitting jobs lined up :-) So there she sat for a few hours snipping away. What a help that was...and worth every penny of my seven dollars!

I also forked out some more cash for a complete organization of my pantry and all kitchen and bathroom cabinets. So for 20 bucks I got my coupons clipped, and all my cabinets organized. Not too bad an investment huh????

So what is the going rate in your house?
